Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of RedundantDNS, the multi-provider authoritative DNS service available at redundantdns.com, its dashboard, its API and any related tools (together, the "Service"). The Service is operated by the RedundantDNS team ("RedundantDNS", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you are authorized to bind it, and "you" means that organization.

1. What the Service does

RedundantDNS keeps a canonical copy of each DNS zone you manage and replicates it to two or more DNS providers (for example AWS Route 53 or OCI DNS) so that your domain keeps answering if one provider fails. The Service detects changes made directly at a provider ("drift") and lets you reconcile or adopt them. You decide which providers are attached to each zone and you set the nameservers at your domain registrar.

2. Accounts

  • You sign in with your e-mail address and a one-time code. Keep access to that mailbox secure: whoever controls it controls the account.
  • Give us accurate information and keep it up to date.
  • Each organization has members with roles (owner, admin, editor, viewer). Owners and admins are responsible for who they invite and for what members do.
  • You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority where you live, to use the Service.

3. Your provider accounts and credentials

  • When you connect a provider account you give us credentials for it. We store them encrypted, use them only to operate your zones as you configure them, and never show them again.
  • Grant the least privilege the Service needs. Our in-app guides describe the two access levels (create and manage zones, or manage an existing zone).
  • Your relationship with each provider is governed by your own agreement with that provider, including its fees. You are responsible for those fees and for keeping the provider account active.
  • You may revoke a credential at the provider at any time. The zones attached to it will then stop syncing and the dashboard will report an error.
  • On paid plans you may also use provider accounts that we operate (managed mode). Those accounts are governed by the Managed Provider Terms, which your organization accepts before its first managed connection.

4. Acceptable Use

This section is our Acceptable Use Policy. It applies to every organization and every zone, whether the zone is served by provider accounts you connect yourself ("bring your own", BYO) or by provider accounts we operate for you ("managed"; see also the Managed Provider Terms).

You agree not to use the Service, or let anyone use it through your account, to:

  • manage zones for domains you do not own or are not authorized to administer;
  • run or support phishing, fraud, impersonation or credential theft;
  • distribute malware, or operate command-and-control, botnet or other infrastructure for unauthorized access to systems;
  • send spam or operate infrastructure for unsolicited bulk messages, including records that make such mail look legitimate;
  • infringe intellectual property, privacy or other rights of others;
  • publish content or run services that are illegal where you operate or where the Service is provided, including child sexual abuse material, content that incites violence and illegal gambling;
  • deal with persons, entities or regions subject to economic sanctions or export restrictions that apply to you, to us or to a provider;
  • attack, probe or overload the Service, other customers or any provider, or bypass rate limits, access controls or the tenant isolation of the Service;
  • resell or rent the Service to third parties without a written agreement with us;
  • reverse engineer the Service except where the law allows it despite this restriction.

What we may do. When we receive a credible abuse report, a request from a provider, a court order or another legal requirement, or when we detect a breach of this section, we may:

  • suspend or remove a specific zone, record, token or member;
  • stop the Service from writing to a provider for the affected zones;
  • suspend the organization's account on the Service.

This applies to BYO zones too: we can stop operating them through the Service and suspend your account, although we cannot remove anything from a provider account that is yours. When it is safe and lawful to do so, we will tell you first, explain the reason and give you a reasonable chance to fix the problem. When the law, a provider or the severity of the harm requires immediate action, we act first and tell you as soon as we can, unless we are not allowed to.

Reporting abuse. Report abuse involving a zone served through the Service to abuse@redundantdns.com with the domain, the evidence and how to reach you.

5. API and tokens

Personal access tokens and other API credentials act on your behalf. Keep them secret, give them only the scopes they need and revoke them when they are no longer used. You are responsible for actions taken with your tokens until you revoke them.

6. Availability and your responsibilities

Replicating a zone to several providers reduces the impact of a single provider outage, but no DNS setup is immune to failure. The Service depends on the providers you attach, on your registrar and on the public internet, which we do not control. Unless a separate written agreement or your plan includes a service level agreement, the Service is provided without any availability commitment.

You remain responsible for your domain registration, for setting the nameservers we show you at your registrar, and for keeping an export of your zones if you need one outside the Service. You can export any zone at any time as a standard zone file.

7. Plans, fees and billing

  • Some features require a paid plan. Prices and plan limits are shown before you subscribe.
  • Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card details.
  • Fees are billed in advance for each billing period, are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise, and exclude taxes, which you pay where applicable.
  • We may change prices for future billing periods with at least 30 days of notice. If you do not agree, you may cancel before the change takes effect.
  • If a payment fails we may, after notice, limit the account to read-only use until it is settled. We never delete your zones at your providers because of a failed payment.

8. Cancellation and termination

You may stop using the Service and ask us to delete your account at any time by writing to legal@redundantdns.com. Deleting a canonical zone in RedundantDNS does not delete the zones at your providers unless you explicitly ask for it. We may terminate the Service for you if you materially breach these Terms and do not cure the breach within 15 days of notice, or at once in the cases described in section 4 (Acceptable Use). After termination we delete your data as described in the Privacy Policy.

9. Your data and our rights

Your zones, records and other content remain yours. You grant us only the rights needed to host, process and replicate them to the providers you choose, and to operate, secure and support the Service. We own the Service itself, including the software, the dashboard and the RedundantDNS brand. Feedback you send us may be used to improve the Service without any obligation to you.

10. Disclaimer

Except as expressly stated in these Terms, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the maximum extent allowed by law.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, revenue or data, arising from these Terms or the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim. These limits do not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law, including rights consumers have under mandatory consumer protection law.

12. Indemnity

You will defend and indemnify us against third-party claims arising from zones or content you manage through the Service, or from your breach of these Terms, except where the claim results from our own breach.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. Each version is identified by its date at the top of this page. When a change is material we will notify you in the dashboard and ask you to accept the new version before you continue using the Service; if you do not agree, you may cancel. API tokens keep working while you review a new version.

14. General

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any order form or written agreement with us, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Not enforcing a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer these Terms without our consent; we may transfer them in a merger, acquisition or sale of the Service. These Terms are governed by the laws of Brazil, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protection rules of the country where you live.
